UTM Hull Survey

UTM Hull Survey

Thickness Measurement (TM) is a mandatory part of the survey process of a ship. Measurements of the vessel's structure are required to be taken at varying intervals. At a minimum, this would be every 5 years at Special Survey (Class Renewal). Many types of ships require measurements at Intermediate Survey as well. Older vessels' TM requirements at Intermediate Survey are to be taken at the same extent as the previous Special Survey.

It’s about People and Skill!

Model Marine Services specializes in the Heavy Marine sector! We understand ship construction. Our certified technicians are thickness measurement specialists, with strong shipping backgrounds and they are technically trained and certified for the job.

Preparation and Planning

Everyone knows that surprises can cost a lot of time and money. Our aim is to help avoid this. Wherever possible, it is imperative that an owner / manager start the survey process in good time prior to docking.
Thickness Measurement for Renewal and Special Surveys can start as early as 15 months prior to due date! This means that measurements can be taken, evaluated and arepair specificationestablished.
Important! - For Class surveys, a Surveyor from the appointed Classification Society must be involved in the process from the start. It is his / her decision as to the extent of measurements to be taken.
Thickness Measurement with subsequent Condition Assessment and Recommended Repair reports can also be carried out WithoutClass involvement.
This is often the case when an owner / manager feels the need for an accurate status report of the condition of the hull and internals. This document becomes the property of the owner and will remain completely confidential. Note however that these measurements cannot be used in subsequent Class surveys.

STEPS DURING UT MEASUREMENTS

Before planning the TM survey, attended Class Surveyor should be notified. A meeting will be scheduled, usually on board, withthe Surveyor, the TM Company and the Owner's representative.
At this meeting the extent of measurement will be decided by the Surveyor. It is his / her word that is final on the subject. This is usually according to a template showing minimum TM requirements. In this template there is a point called Critical Areas as deemed by the Surveyor, The surveyor will decide this after a thorough inspection of the ballast tanks and other areas has been made.
During the TM process, the Surveyor has the right to accompany the TM operator while measurements are being taken or until such time as he is satisfied that the TM survey is being carried out correctly.
Model Marine Services has a good reputation with the Surveyors that have worked with us.
When survey is completed, the authorized TM company submits a TM report, as per class given software in that report all measurements and repairs are indicated during survey in AutoCAD drawings are included in that.
